Intimate, sophisticated spaces for a professional couple with 4 young children
Originally built in 1991, this 6-bedroom family home is nestled within Tampa’s prestigious Saddlebrook Resort. The lush tropical 480-acre resort getaway is famous for its world-class tennis facilities.
Our shared design goal was to create the elevated feeling you would experience in a sexy 5-star boutique hotel. Easy comfort with welcoming fresh sophistication happens when you skillfully mix old and new furnishing, rich textures, and ambient lighting. This multi-layered background naturally sets the stage for timeless elegance and supports the home’s traditional architectural style.
The Snug-Room, originally built as a formal Music Room, is the entry’s focal point but it needed to be reimagined to support the family’s lifestyle. The bold transformation was stylishly redesigned to feel like a cozy library or sexy smoking lounge. The walls and ceiling received layers of dead-flat paint in “Hague Blue” by Farrow & Ball. Its rich, deep navy colour has a European feel with a tinge of green. This intense blue takes its name from the fantastically coloured woodwork much used by the Dutch. Creating character in the room with full wall wainscoting, a library bookcase, and varied lighting giving it that much-needed layer of ambience. The result is a stress-free space where the busy, professional couple can retreat to unwind over old-fashioned cocktails and stories from their day set against the grand foyer’s impressive black-and-white checkerboard floor. It is truly a commanding, glamorous room with lots of wow!
The foyer’s sweeping entrance received a dramatic facelift, replacing shiny peach marble flooring from the early 1990s with honed black-and-white antiqued marble floors. The checkerboard pattern creates a graphic and refined statement commonly found in Europe’s most distinguished homes and elegant hotels.
